Small Givi topcase with pad and led light, then ditch the saddlebags.

Backrests aren't cheap. Even a Givi made for a scooter, nothing but thin stamped steel and molded plastic will cost around $90+. Pirates-Lair has a really high quality unit with a "fabulous" luggage rack ;) That costs $395. Add a $40 accessory and his rack can then accommodate a trunk, just not in conjunction with the back-rest. Link below. Most people go with a trunk and the passenger can lean on it if needed. My wife wouldn't ride my bike until I did that.

Years ago there were some posts regarding guys that would go to the junk yard and get old HeadRests from certain cars and modify them to act as backrests. Unfortunately I think that those posts went to the great beyond with the old message board, I know that if you google it you will find some images of other bikes that guys are using them.

I found one for $150 from Phat Performance Parts...not as nice as the AST one but I think atleast I can get it. Might have to wait till the paypal claim is done.

I have a phil's rack on my C14 and just mounted the back rest from a silverwing
Like this one: http://www.twistedthrottle.com/givi-tb19-backrest-honda-silverwing-600 (http://www.twistedthrottle.com/givi-tb19-backrest-honda-silverwing-600)
I found mine for cheaper (about $58 shipped on the bay)

I bought a 50 dollar JCW trunk, not the greatest to look at but the wife and kids like the security it provides. Pretty much only time it is on the bike is when one of them are, or if I know I will be stopping at a store or something and know I will need the extra capacity.
-
I made one using Phil's rack a black Mustang headrest, some small scraps of steel, pipe, nuts, stainless steel screws, and a little welding. I will try to attach some pictures tomorrow. The headrest was $10 + about $5 for the other materials.

So I paid for the PHAT one a week and a half ago and just got an email that its going to be another 4 to 6 weeks so now thats out...anyone have any other options?
-
What happened to AST? That was the backrest I was planning on getting. I don't like the Givi trunks, the style, in my opinion, looks bad on the Concours.
-
Then there is the bicycle seat option..
-
Might want to be careful with AST! http://www.zggtr.org/index.php?topic=17816.0 (http://www.zggtr.org/index.php?topic=17816.0)

Hey Blanton, I am interested in how you did the red mesh on the fairings? I did something similar to my sold 2001 ZX-6R....see pic. Wondering if you did it the same way I did. Let me know. Thanks.

Ok ljcorby, that is gutter gaurge from home depot...formed easy....
-
I actually wanted a tighter mesh so I found a mesh garbage can at Lowes, cut it up, formed it how i wanted, painted it the same color as the frame, and used adhesive to glue it in. How did you adhere yours?
