Title: Signing in...
Post by: Bryn on December 09, 2012, 03:34:03 AM
From Leicester UK...

Hi folks ,

Just managed to retire from the cops ... For the past 17 years they've paid me to ride a bike  :D

As far as personal bikes are concerned:

Spent the last few years on various BMW GS's ,but now I've found The seating position gives me grief in the Coccyx area....

Decided to go for an '09 GTR in August.. And loving it!  changed the screen for a Calsci Large, put a top sellerie seat on it.. And I reckon it will be good for some comfortable Euro trips next summer...

Bryn, what sort of bike did you have at work? I'm fire and I see a few big cities out west have dual purpose bikes that act in a first responder mode as they can get through traffic easier before the other fire units arrive. I'd love to do that but my city is not all the large. Any fire dept. bikes in the UK that you know of?

We had FJR1300's , before that we were using ST1100 Pan Euro's.... We did have an FJR in our workshops a couple of years ago being kitted out as a fire bike, but when it went I don't know what happened to it or if it was put into service ....

Here's two from a couple of years ago, covering a soldiers funeral ... he'd been killed  in Afghanistan . I'm the one on the right as you view the picture.. There were literally thousands of people lining the route, and the cortege was walked through Melton Mowbray for at least a couple of miles .

Bryn, it looks like the whole town turned out for the fallen soldiers' funeral. Very cool. My son holds the UK troops he's served with in Iraq and Afganistan in very high regard.

I think the troops are well thought of by the public as well, it's just the government that seems to struggle with them when they come home.....There seems to be a lot of returning troops that do not have enough support when they get to civvy street   :(

Public sentiment, here as well, is a world of difference from the near distant past. Governments are much better at breaking things than fixing them. It's the same the world over.

Not likely to change soon either....

I do miss duties like that one.. But the politics that went with the job was not so good!

Yes, politics, making me leave at minimum time served, 25 years, and hoping these next 28 months go very quickly, wish it was different. Anyhow, welcome, glad you got out safe.

Welcome, Bryn!  Seems we're seeing an influx of Brits (2) the past week.  I see my master plan is coming together quite nicely.

Possibly...or maybe not.  All will be made clear on the 22nd of this month.
