Fricking Oil Filters

Ok, just some info from Central Ohio. Trying to find an oil filter for my 01, my local Kaw dealership doesn't even stock them anymore. But the one from Mama Kaw is $13.   :o
 Used to get them at Wally World, and Meijers, no more. Advanced Auto and Napa, Nope, can order for $12.
So I hit O'Reilly, kinda new to my area here in Springfield, but nationwide has 3700 stores.
Found a Wix #24941 , and the Manager showed me a quality report. It is quite a bit better then Fram and K & N. And Mama Kaw was terrible.
This is a normal stock filter, or one day order if dealer is out.

And $6.99 is a good price, considering retail is $12.

So here are the numbers so far.
Fram: CH6012: hard to find, $6 to $10
Fram: CH6009; same as above
WIX: 24941: Any O'Reillys for $6.99 anyday of the week
Don't know if you have problems finding them in your area, but hopefully if you need this info, it helps.

The Advance Auto near me always has a few of the Fram CH6012 filters in stock, and for about $6.  Walmart sometimes has them.

I just went the SPOOFAK route, though, and have a plethora of filters to choose from.

Get the spin-on adapter, cut out the belly pan a little and never look back.  Oil changes without removing any plastic.

I have the adapter, but  haven't cut out the belly pan. I was a little concerned that oil draining from the plugs would drip onto the belly pan anyway and make a mess. Have you had any problem with this?

Nope..... The only reason for the cut out is so that there is no interfearance from the belly pan and the filter itself if the long filter is used and/or so that there is no reason to remove the belly pan to remove the filter. The two oil drain bolts are not under the belly pan so no change there. The only issue I've got with mine is the same as I had before in that you will still drip some oil on the belly pan's metal cross member and that's just an extra 20 seconds to wipe off the drippage.

Dont know if this helps anyone, but I have been ordering mine on http://www.knfilters.com/ If you order 2 or more they have free ground UPS shipping. The filters are $7.49 a piece, so for $15, you get 2, and you dont have to go anywhere. That price is for the cartridge filter (kn-401). I am not sure how much the filters are if you have the SPOOFAK. Almost forgot to mention that the kn-401 comes with the new o-ring too.

Actually from the searching i have done, supertech isn't all that bad from what i can find. Its tons better than fram, but we wont go there.....

I haven't bought an oil filter from a bricks and mortar store in more than 10 years.  Whenever I buy parts online for one of my bikes or cars, I include a few filters in the order.  Lots of times the price of the filters is just enough to get me over the free-shipping threshold.   Plus I never have to wonder if I have a filter in the parts box... because I always do.

After trying the auto parts stores and the local motorcycle shop, I found that Menards lumber yard stocks 6012 Fram filters.  I got 2 for $7.00 on special.  that was the last two on the shelf, but last week I noticed they had more.

Any idea who the author of the quality report was?  I have always heard good things about WIX filters, but have been using K & N in my Connie.  If the WIX is even marginally better, I'll start running those.     :stirpot:

No way in he77 will I believe that the Wix is in any way, shape, or form better than the K&N oil filter.... I've been using Wix, and/or NAPA filters on big marine diesels for many a decade and while they are indeed a good quality filter they are not the "Premium" filter that the K&N filter is.

K&N air filters are supposed to be premium air filters but they let in lots more dirt.
