My kids new him as the voice of Mermaid Man.  I didn't care to much for McHale's Navy but he was just maniacal in "Emperor of the North".   He wasn't bad in "The Dirty Dozen" either.

He was really one of the great actors IMNSHO. He had the ability to be mean or sweet, and be believable which few actors today seem to be able to do. But maybe the real measure is the length of his working experience. It was vast in time and timeless in various roles. He will be missed.

I was looking at how many movies he had done. I thought about posting them but there are so damn many. Imagine that he started his film career in 1951 and he just completed a movie for 2012. He has been doing movies longer than many actors have been alive at 61 years and he didn't start until his mid 30's since he did a 10 year stint in the Navy.

Great actor and unmistakable style!
We'll miss him a lot!
Luckily there's plenty of movies to watch and enjoy his art.

A great performance in "From Here to Eternity", and an oscar for "Marty", and I've been searching for years for the DVD "The Emperor of the North", anybody know where to find it? A great character actor and a great lead actor, afraid you'll not see any of those anymore in the future.

Guess I should have clarified. Not online. Libraries was what I was saying. I'll go to the local Barnes and Noble and try to order from them. Borders used to do that.
