-

-
Thanks, MOB! I'm in as well.

I'm in like Flynn!

I have someone on the "other forum" giving me some $#!+ about these fitting, I have been uber busy and have not pulled and replaced the ring yet.
I know as an engineer this will fit, but until I actually do the replacement, I'm not gonna waste your money and postage.....
now; on an aside, these folks are full of themselves, and have never "popped" an o-ring sealed device into place using a GENTILE tap of a rubber mallet... that being said, I am certain this is the correct combo, so bear with me till I do mine this weekend, and I will either send the ring, and instructions, or re-size and grab something better.....
rest assured no matter what, you will get a more robust cure than what the bike came with. ;)
I'm thinking I'm spot on, I do this stuff for a living.
if I can't accomplish this, the $1 plus the stamp fee will be in the mail; a.s.i. do it 8) ;) ;)
Hang tight bro, stuff is on the way....

Any updates on this, Rich?

I just noticed this. Pretty awesome. The search for cam sensor leak is very educational.

Any updates on this, Rich?
Guys, I really sorry to not have done the replacement yet and reported back, I have been slammed for spare time, I have 4 projects in midstream right now.... ??? :'( :'( :'(
I'll re-prioritize and see what I can come up with.... ;)
-
OOOOOO KAYYYYY..... ;)
RE-prioritized my life today, to get this done for y'all.....
the word is........
woooooo=haaaaaaaaa
it fits perfectly, without a hitch..... you do have to coax the bugger in with your thumb nails, but, it goes in.
soooooo all y'all that sent me envelopes will be getting a pair of rings sent out tomorry, and anyone else that wants some, shoot me the specifics outlined in my initial post here....
I can't vouch for the longevity, or the sealability till I ride a couple thousand miles, but I can say for certain that it fits tighter, and does FIT, compared to the stock OEM p.o.s. (of which I had a new one and compared insertion with.... will say this, there was zero resistance inserting the OEM ring..... ::) ::) ::)
man that job sucks doing it sitting on the floor....... I have another bike up on the lift, and had to do this job "the old fashioned way".....what a biotch. :'(
goin to bed now.
sore knees.
sore back.
but happy that it is a good job, and it seeems to work fine.
-
We appreciate all your efforts, Rich. How much did you have to take apart to get to it?
-
So is this another "early bike" issue?
I just looked at my '10 and it dry and dusty. Knock on wood.
-
Hmmm......could be.
-

PRETTY MUCH EVERYTHING short of the wheels and tank ::) ::) :rotflmao: :yikes:  :censored: started top down
glovebox
black filler plates
right bat cover plastic
rear mid vented pieces
front mid sides w/ flashers
front inner black triangles
unplug sensor from harness on right mid side
upper rad bolts and loco clips(remember how they look take a pic before removing)
lower rad bolt (without doing this you cant move rad enough)
wipe the sensor area well with solvent rag....
now you can reach the sensor bolt....
pop it out, pull the sensor out right side of bike.
Peel the o-ring off with a toothpick, and clean the groove and body well with solvents.
lightly grease new ring with general purpose bearing grease and roll it on, smear a little more on to lube the probe end.
from the left side of bike now,
shove it in and when it stops @ the ring, place your thumb nail against the ring and press it into the groove while pressing the sensor home.
It doesn't require brute force, just some teasing with the thumbnail.
Install everything back in reverse order...
getting the Radiator in place with the clips situated akimbo to the plastic shroud above the horns is the BIOTCH.. requires 4 hands.
you'll figger' it out tho, just relax and expell some good old cussin' words...
I did put a couple wrench clicks on the header nuts, but none were what I could consider "loose" at all...
this whole job goes much easier with a good set of 1/4" drive sockets, long and short extensions, adapters for the allen head bits, and a charged Skil right angle electric driver/wrench.
oh one more tool:
Harbor Freight Bike lift.... :'(
this job sucked doing it on the ground....did I mention that?
had I not had another bike on the lift, and more room, I could have taken 2 hours off the job time, just because of access issues and crawling around on the floor....arggggggg
turned a 2 hour job into 4.
-
Thanks, Rich.
-
you guys get your rings in the mail yet?
just checking to make sure......
who's gonna be first to tell us how much fun the job was? 8) 8) 8)
beside me....? :'(
-
Send me the address and sich to be able to partake ;D

thanks Jim,
I miss you guys...
how'd the rings work out for you?
I smelled a whiff of oil the other day when I was going out after an ADV tag shot... freaked me out, till I pulled up at a stoplight, and the car in front of me took off..... whew.... it tweren't my bike....
I added a poll, now that these have been out for over a year.... expecting good feedback...
-
I be new here, stumbled in by accident (google search) a likely convert from the forum of those that want money to share their knowledge....
So my new to me 08 has 71K miles and running strong. It's never had the valves checked! The original owner swore to this on a stack of dealer service invoices.... I just have to check them this winter, it'll be fairings off when the salt truck goes by for the first time.
OK enough rambling I like the 2fer mailing set up but where is the leaky sensor, how, why, where, is mine leaking? thread?
-
Information is costly grasshopper...we want a shrubbery.
