Title: Torquing swingarm w/o special tool

Any suggestions on properly tightening the swingarm with a hex socket on a torque wrench instead of using the special tool?  The tool changes the leverage. I expected it to go just like tightening the steering head or car wheel bearings; tighten to movement resistance to set packed bearings, loosen, tighten to slight resistance, back 1/4 turn.  Tightened the adjuster way more than felt comfortable to get bearing preload.

I just use an Allen socket on my torque wrench to get the pivot set to the correct torque (20lbft).
I then tighten the locknut with a regular open ended wrench as tight as I can.
Finally I torque the locknut to 38lbft and don't bother to try to hold the pivot.
It's worked for me for many years of C10 rebuilds.
