Bluetooth helmet set-up.
« on: September 26, 2011, 08:58:45 AM »
Is anyone using this?
http://www.amazon.com/ChatterBox-XBi2-Bluetooth-Wireless-Intercom/dp/B0029LY6QW

I'm thinking I can stream music, and get voice directions (GPS app) from my iPhone4.  I'm wearing a Scorpion EXO 1000.

OR??

I love my Sena SMH-10 that is mounted to my EXO-1000.  It is plenty loud with GPS, MP3, intercom, and Phone.  There is are a couple threads here that will give you an idea of what other members here think of it.

Keeping the economy going, one tank of fuel and two tires at a time.

Rider magazine did a nice writeup of the various Bluetooth helmet units recently.  I've got to dig out my copy of it.  I think they gave the Sena high marks for sound quality.  It'll probably be my choice when I get around to getting one.

I bought the Oneal Tirade helmets with bluetooth from Cyclegear.com.  They are complete and utter garbage.

Cyclegear took them back and sold me two ChatterBox XBi2-H and two HJC IS-MAX helmets for cost.  I haven't put them together and tried them out yet.

EDIT:10/18

Finally got a chance to use my helmet, except for the intercom.  Used the Bluetooth to play music from my phone.  The volume is seriously lacking.  Turned all the way up, it's barely audible above 50 MPH.

I have the SENA.  It's a good unit.  I haven't tried any other units.  My wife is electronically inept (love you honey!) and she was able to use it proficiently.  I bought the headphone adaptor and prefer it to the helmet speakers.  I think the helmet speaker volume is awesome but the sound quality is crap - tinny with no bass at all.  The battery lasts forever, and they don't lock up or crash, and they are easy to use.  We used them for our big summer trip, and the only problem we had was that somehow I got mine on vox and couldn't remember how to fix it.  It would make the person-to-person drop out all the time.  Once I figured out how to change it back, everything was well.

Thanks Rick.. Have a question about the ear buds.  Wondering how you install the ear buds with the hekmet off.  Is there a lot of extra wiring that needs to be tucked away?
