I feel better having mine on the bike and will find out how it performs on my upcoming multi-state trip.

What bags have you used on this rack?

Shad 50 for me, works very well. Optional shad brake light will not work without major mod !

So does the mount that Givi sends with the E55 trunk provide sufficient support for the passenger as well as sturdy enough not to fly off or is Phil's a must have item?   No offense to Phil as I have heard nothing but the best about his rack but just wondering if I can save some cash and just use the GIVI mount.

Phil:
Thanks for the offset risers.  They were perfect.  The height with the added 12 degree offset helps a lot.  Now to find some larger diameter grips!

I assume your talking about the SR410 mounting kit? As far as I can tell, you save yourself about $40( by the time you add the SW-Motech) and you have to drill a couple holes in your tail section.

FWIW I don't have Phil's Rack. I have a Premiere but I would choose the luggage Rack from either one over the Givi mounting kit.

I just installed the OEM Kaw top case & after a ride immediately ordered Phils rack. The OEM rack is as advertised-flimsy!! I saw on Phil's site that I need a mounting plate,my question: if its mounted now do I still need something else to mount it on Phil's piece??

My new Corbin modular seat came today.  So I have determined now with the Corbin seat, Phil's rack, and the GIVI E55 case, that there is no way to get the Corbin backrest to work.   I will need to get the GIVI backrest, which I'm sure is not as nice.
I guess for me that has been the only downfall of the combination that I have.   Phil's rack works great, looks great, and really does feel so much more solid than the stock rack, and we have no issue with insufficient passenger room with the combination.

The mounting plate is the one that came with the Kawi top box. You will remove the OEM rack and replace it with Phil's amazing rack. You will then attach the Kawi mounting plate to Phils rack and then the put the Kawi box back on.

Doc,
I don't have the E55 so I'm not exactly sure how they mount, but is it possible to slide the trunk further back on Phils rack to clear the Corbin backrest? This is what I did for my Kawi 47 trunk and it clears just enough for the Corbin backrest.

No, unfortunately the E55 is a fixed location and cannot be adjusted forward or backwards.   Phil and I discussed this before I ordered my rack.   Just gonna have to get the GIVI backrest and see how she does with that.
