So has anybody seen this movie yet?

It appears that not many people have seen it, already being considered a box office flop. So much for star power bringing in money, better to go with a less known actor that fits the "actual part and description" of the books. The author was an idiot for approving what he did......idiot.

The author, Lee Child, has a cameo in the movie as a desk sergeant who gives Jack Reacher his personal belongings back when he leaves jail.

Saw the movie opening day. Haven't read the books yet -- may do so now -- but I enjoyed the heck out of the film. I though Cruise did a fine job of action/adventure dude once again -- I also enjoyed Knight and Day a couple of years back. No, he isn't huge, but I imagine a large part of the book version is the sharp wit and keen intelligence of the character, both of which are here in spades.

I would say that watching the movie before reading the book is a good thing. I have read all of the Reacher novels and after that, in terms of size, Tom does not stack up. I could see that it is a good movie on it's own, but if you try to compare the characters it may leave something to be desired.

My daughter gave me a $30 gift card for Regal Theaters. I used $7 yesterday to go and see Django. Good flick. Now my next use will probably be the Reacher movie.

Hands down the best choice in all of Hollywood for Jack Reacher, and he has done a ton of movies. He is also 6'6, very physical specimen and is a great actor.  Kevin Durand........ http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0243806/  Look how tiny Russel Crow is beside him....lol.

I don't disagree with your conclusion but that's not Russell Crow standing next to him in this picture. I believe it's Scott Grimes as Will Scarlet.

Ditto! Although Durand is a big dude, I always thought his role choice and performance was somewhat goofy.

He is a much better choice than Dolph Lundgren would be.  ;)  And yes that is Scott Grimes, but Crowe would look like a midget too. Totally screwed up with Cruise, still blows my mind they choose him for this role. I hear the movie was pretty damn good all things considered, but it sure screws the vision of who Reacher should be.

I did go see the movie. I thought it was a good movie, just so long as you don't try to equate the Reacher from the book with the one in the movie.

Well....there is always Richard Reacher, can call him Dick for short. Or maybe Jimmy Reacher, that has a nice ring to it.
