Got to give props to our sport-touring sister bike, the Yamaha FJR 1300. FJR swept the podium in the 2013 Iron Butt Rally which concluded this week. In fact. they took five out of the top six positions. This is a big change from the the days when the more traditional IBR mounts: Goldwings, BMW's, and Honda ST1300, dominated the IBR.
Now, most IBR pros seek out a proven bike that meets as many of their feature criteria as possible. The FJR has been growing in long-distance popularity over the years. Sixteen of ninety-six entrants rode FJR's in this year's IBR. For comparison, our beloved C-14 is still relatively "new", and as yet still in the proving out phase for many LD riders. There were five C-14's ridden this year, with a top finish in 24th place. I am sure the C-14 will continue to grow in popularity for serious LD riding.
But, for now, congrats the those serious Iron Butt riders and their FJR's.
