Has anyone used CO2 inflaters
« on: August 20, 2013, 05:33:04 PM »
I was thinking a buy a set up, has anyone had the need to fix a flat on the road and use this type of inflator?  If you have what brand and how many cartridges were needed to fill a tire?

thanks

I keep a Genuine Innovations Ultraflate Plus, six 12 gm cartridges, and a string plug set in a small zip case in the side bag or in the area under the tail cover. Four 12 gms. will fill a sticky string plugged rear from flat to about 24 psi -- enough to ride carefully to real compressed air.

Thanks, I ordered a unit that accepts either threaded or smooth cartridges plus a 6 pack.  Used to carry an old style inflater, that you screwed into a spark plug hole, but they were made for 14mm plugs.  Those were simpler times. But I have to admit that tubless tires and the plug kit sure make repairs possible without removing the tire.

I've got a small 12V compressor. It fits in the space
behind the battery. Never runs out of cartridges.
In a pinch can run off any 12V source.

I have used a type of goop shot into the tire to prevent flats, I've used CO2 inflators on the side of the road, and now, I have a small electrically powered compressor I will use along with a BMW type repair kit. CO2 types worked, kinda. After a VERY sharp learning curve 150 miles from home and maybe 50 miles from anywhere, I used two of the three in the kit I had to kinda get some air into the rear tire and limp, literally, to the nearest gas station to put some more air into the tire. I was headed to the national in CO from OH in a few months and I swore never to use something like that again. My experience only, many others will be different.

I've got one of them but it has adapters to suit all plug sizes.
