Anywhere from 38 to 45, I think that is pretty darn impressive considering how much engine is under all that plastic below you.

When you ride with the foot draggers do you lead and wait at the next corner or follow way behind and play catchup?  ;)
Both. Prefer to fall behind and play, occasionally lead because I setup the route.

It helps to have a more 'descriptive' subject line in order to draw more folks into the fray...  I've modified it to more pertain to the subject matter.

Sometimes when I fill up so the fuel just reaches the filler pipe I find that I can still get another 1/2 gallon in. This is a large variation in what is a full tank and ultimate range in tank. If you use this measurement to figure for gas milage on a single tank you may be wildly inaccurate. Multiple tanks need to be filled to get a true average.
I think the computer is actualy very accurate when I average over several tanks worth.
I also find wind coditions and brand and position of the windshield important factors. Also elavation seems to helps the mpg.

If you keep it at 76-77 mph in ECO  with the 55 tire you should be in the 40+ range ,
One extra gal would be nice , I went for a six   hour ride yesterday and I'm going to buy some highway foot pegs , need to change position once in a while.

My new 2011 gets about 38 mpg so far. Just changed the oil for the first time today, so that should go up a little.
My new car is sitting nice at 48.5 mpg. This could get interesting. 2013 VW. Passat TDI 6spd.

Pretty freaking awesome, eh?

FWIW, 42ish on average, been that way for close to 55,000 miles.  '08, full AP, PCV, AT, and ZX14 TBs.  I tend to fill up at the 200-210 range.  If we take in a trip to Pacific Raceways, the mileage goes down, way down ;D

I have found the trip computer to be reasonably accurate.

In January this year I went on a 9337km trip with a total fuel usage of 541.19 litres, part of the post trip cost analysis was fuel usage.

On this trip the GTR computer was telling me a 18.1 km/lt average, my calculations based on kilometers traveled against fuel used indicated an accurate average of 17.25 Km/Lt or 40.5 M/G was achieved with the bike loaded for an extended trip.

A US Gallon = 3.785 Lt
A Mile = 1.609 km

9337/1.609 = 5803 Miles traveled
541.19/3.785 = 143 US Gallons of fuel
5803/143 = 40.5 Miles/Gallon

The GS1500 I was traveling with returned an average of around 14.7 km/Lt

My friend who has a 2010 C14 asked me that too.  Of course I am not, it's a 2012 and I am enjoying the new bike, not in an MPG contest. Ok, lesson learned.

This comment makes NO sense.  As soon as you twist the throttle to the fun zone ECO mode turns itself off.  There's no reason not to leave it on all the time.

Wow, I've never kept a spreadsheet of a ride. What do you do for a living?

When I first got my 2012 C14, I had thought the mileage was a little low, averaging about 35mpg or so. Since the break-in period is over now, I've been doing more highway miles, and it's gone up to 37-38 per tank. I've also seen close to 42mpg, though I then got stuck in a horrendous traffic jam in the city, which blew that all to hell.

I don't mind the decreased economy compared to my C10 though, the power more than makes up for it.  ;D

+1 Got that right! If it was about fuel economy I'd be on a FI less than 1000cc of some sort. A Honda Shadow VLX gets 57 mpg but

 :goodpost: Totally agree!

I was looking at that new Honda NC700X. Claims are that they get close on 70mpg. Not very powerful though...

Damn. My Zx14 averages about 36 when I'm taking it easy. I don't feel so bad now. lol

My 2010 C14 would average about 44-46 if I was really really nice. Otherwise it was about 38 in normal riding. I think I hit 50 once, but I had a really nice tailwind. And ECO mode didn't do much for me. It just made the MPG reading on the dash even farther off.

I ride fairly conservatively ( for an old, retired guy), and I use ECO all the time. According to the display computer, I get 42-44 mpg. However, when I calculate mpg based on miles driven since last fill, divided by gallons required to fil, I get 30-31 mpg. My wife's Ford Focus does waaaaay better.

I really don't care that much about mpg, but I am disappointed that the display is so horribly inaccurate; it's off by 25% or so, easily.

I swapped from the 09 shorty stock windshield to the Cee Baileys ultra tour and put the 47 liter trunk back on my bike (with no other changes) and probably lost 4 mpg on my normal weekend ride. 44-46 mpg down to barely over 40. Normally only get 36 mpg driving back and forth to work but it's only 16 miles round trip with about a dozen red lights or stop signs.

Air drag/aerodynamics is a big factor in fuel efficiency... especially at higher speeds.  I ride an electric scooter the several blocks to work and back every day, my speed/power can be cut in half when there is a headwind :)
