My renewal is in at $677.00 for 1,000,000 liability, increased accident benefits, collision, uninsured automobile, direct compensation and comprehensive. I am 44 years old, perfect driving record, live in south/central Ontario (GTA-York Region). All of our policy's are with Security National/TD-Meloche Monnex on a special rate plan for York University employees.

It's nice to see that you can get a group rate through your employer. Not all employers would offer this, union or not. Living in London, 2 hrs away I pay nearly as much as you GTA guys, most likely because we have more morons driving per capita then you guys. A shame considering we are 376,000 to your 3-4 million.  ???

Now this is realistic! ;D Use to be like that till the mid 90's, now with the no fault BS, well you see.

SGI motorcycle rate hike not definite, says Brad Wall
 By Alyssa McDonald

Metro Regina

SGI says there are around 25,000 motorcycles in Saskatchewan, all of which would be effected by increased rates.

Premier Brad Wall says the proposed hike in SGI motorcycle rates will be up for discussion when session starts on March 4.

Wall says although nothing is confirmed, they will most likely be asking SGI to reexamine the proposed increase and implementation of motorcycle rates after overwhelming public resistance.

“We are hearing from a lot of people, not just riders but others. We want to get these things right so we may well reconsider this and ask SGI to have another go at it after we met as a caucus next week,” said Wall on a conference call with media on Friday.

Wall says it is a ‘slim’ chance the rates will stay as currently proposed.

The issue will be discussed in causes before the government formally approaches SGI to look at other options to the hike, like different kinds of licenses offered.

“We will meet again as a caucus and hear from MLAs. I was just saying today, that we are very open to that input and to the notion that we may have to ask SGI to have another look at this,” said Wall.

SGI proposed around a 70 per cent increase for motorcycle riders that would come into effect in August of 2013. The reason for the drastic increase was a $9 million gap between premiums and the amount paid-out for crashes and injuries.

“The objective here, closing that $9 million gap, is the right thing. … Is there something we could do or ask SGI to do to revisit how we are going to achieve dealing with this gap and look at perhaps more innovation,” said Wall.

There are roughly 25,000 motorcycles in Saskatchewan and around 90 per cent them are only registered during the riding season.

OMG! $9 million, is that all, probably posted a profit in the billions though! Insurance doesn't loose money. If you figure all the premiums that you pay for (house, car, life, rv etc) especially a driving vehicle where you are the only driver for 2-3 vehicles. You are either driving one or the other but have to pay 2-3 times as much. Remember when you could insure the bike for 6 months? Or take the insurance off over the winter to save some cash? What did they do, cancel 6 months policies and if you cancelled it for the winter you are lucky to recoup 10-15% of the premium cause they figured you used 85-90% of it during riding season.  ???

Just remember how your policies changed after 9/11 terrorists attack. If it is a terrorist attack or an act of defense against a terrorist attack you are no longer covered.

They will do whatever they want, why, because it is against the law not to have insurance.

That has always irritated me greatly.  It is why I got rid of my truck because it was just too expensive to have a car, a bike, and a truck.  I was the *ONLY* driver of all three and the truck only had liability.  I had a near perfect record but still had to pay several hundred dollars more a year just for a beat up old truck, liability only, driven only by my, maybe three or four times a year for a total of maybe 150 miles.

I hear you Max! My house, 2 cars and the Connie run me  nearly $4k/yr. Wanted to add the 85 Interceptor for the occasional blast and they wanted nearly another $900 more. ???

heh chap:

I just heard on the news that Brad Wall has officially axed the insurance rate increases.  Although the premiums are way to high- at least you can afford to drive your bike.

Congratulations

I don't think he has axed them yet. They have sent it back for review. They should have the revised rates later in the week. We will see. But at least our vioce was heard.

Is that per year???  If so, that is VERY low.

OK, my registration is $25.  So the $545 is either a hefty tax or a socialist insurance type thing, making the actual insurance rate really $795.  In that case, it is more than double what I pay in Virginia ($362/yr).  Although, my last annual personal property tax bill on my 2011 C14 was $198.  So the water is still muddy.

Just got my renewal this week full coverage and limited roadside $737 /year. Considering we have to insure for the whole year and our riding season in a good season is 7 months long a rip off in my mind.

If I did not live in the USA I would probably want to live in Canada.  Having said that, Canada really is screwing you guys for insurance.  My insurance and registration (for 2 years $25) costs me less than 180 bucks a year with full coverage, towing the whole nine yards with $250 deductible.  I too live in a northern climate so 6-7 months a year is all I get to ride unless I get a odd weather year so I don't get why the heck they are screwing you so bad but next time ask for a kiss too.
